Understanding and Using Visual Qualities

During this week, we discussed three different types of visual culture curriculum such as ideational, formal, and technical. This chapter really talked more about traditional artwork and how it is important to touch base on the techniques for students to comprehend different concepts. When students understand the technical art then it will reflect on their artwork and show successful use of concepts. The more visual qualities students learn the more likely the artwork would be successful. Students will be able to choose various different visual concepts they like to utilize in their artwork. 

I remember when I first came to college and realized how much materials I’ve never experienced in art during high school. In high school, I was exposed to only certain drawing and ceramics materials. I found out that charcoal, printmaking, metals, jewelry, and woodwork was all part of art materials.


Below is an drawing I created, during Freshman year of college, using only charcoal.
