As art educators, teaching unconventional content in class is as important as any other lesson topics. We discussed unconventional lesson ideas and different ways to approach it. We discussed reasons on how the lessons can include technical aspects. It's important to think about the content and skills of a lesson that is effective for students to understand the teaching as in any other lessons. Unconventional content should be able to allow students to remember the lesson, utilize it in other classes, and apply it to their lives.

Traditional lesson is different from unconventional lesson because traditional allows students to learn techniques utilized in history of art, while unconventional is a more modern and unique way of creating art. Allowing traditional media to connect with new media creates a different lesson that can be interpreted in multiple ways. This gives students an opportunity to experiment with different media of arts that’ll open their mindset in viewing visual arts.

Example of unconventional art:

Mexican, Chinese, and 1800's influenced artwork, 2019

Materials: chicken wire, fabric, thread
