Teaching visual arts in radical ways would allow students to engage, think critically, promote creative works, etc. The traditional way of teaching visual arts only allows students to develop growth to a certain degree. By breaking the traditional discipline based art education method, it encourages a more pedagogy way of thinking. The idea of students simply copying the lesson taught creates limitations for student’s mental growth. Radical way of teaching requires students to understand visual culture and various different art forms. This allows students to gain knowledge, develop growth and problem solving. For example, when I was in high school they allowed students to have an independent study within visual art and I was in the class for 2 years. I was able to develop my own visual thinking process with the help of the teacher. She allowed me to create any kind of art in class and this is how I was able to grow as an artist.
Example of high school art: Lesson was to explore different medium and critically think about elements of design along with meaning.
